STK 2116 1964 Plymouth Valiant 200 Convertible
The second generation Valiant was born in 1963. The basic chassis design did not change much from the original version. The structural format was uni-body and the front suspension was still the reliable twin-torsion bar design. However, every body panel was reconfigured to produce a more conservative overall appearance, a direction that Chrysler would continue to follow throughout the ‘60s. The 1964 Valiant continued to receive subtle refinements with one large, pronounced improvement - the introduction of a brand new small block V-8 – the ‘LA’ 273. This lightweight, potent engine became the basis for performance mid-size Chrysler products for more than a decade, growing to 318/340/360ci. This bright red 1964 V-200 convertible has the base 273ci/180bhp version of that engine (2-barrel). The sturdy 16-valve, solid-lifter engine has never required a rebuild, but the current owner did add a custom dual exhaust system that allows the small-block to breathe much better and sound really great. The 273 is backed by the ‘904’ Chrysler 3-speed automatic, a transmission that has always been up to the task (note the ‘push-button’ shifter). Both the body and interior were partially restored in 1999 and are in very good condition. It has factory bumper guards, rare rear fender skirts and the original 13” wheel covers. Classic Chrysler products are more in demand now than ever before. If you are looking for a solid example of a mid-60s MOPAR, take the time to look at this unique Valiant convertible.
